Great question — this verse is often misquoted in a way that can feel dismissive of real pain. Paul says God works all things together for good — the key Greek word is synergei (cooperates, weaves together). He is not saying God authors evil, but that He redeems it.
The "good" here isn't comfort — it's conformity to Christ (v.29). Paul wrote this while imprisoned. He knew suffering wasn't removed; it was redeemed.
